Great Room Expansion
This Ridgefield, Washington home was a getaway for years. Its wooded setting provides stunning views of the environmentally sensitive space protected by Clark County. Complete with main level living spaces, an addition was necessary to provide several key elements to this home. The interior of the existing structure was a remodeling nightmare done by a poorly planned remodeling project. Our Design Build team produced a set of construction drawings that provided solutions to a complexity of structural problems as well as creating an open space in the common area. This great room expansion provided a generous amount of natural light from the west using energy efficient insulated windows and recycling the existing Pella French doors. Radiant heating was installed in the floors to reduce energy consumption and provide consistent warmth throughout the year. The indoor air quality increased dramatically eliminating the dust created by standard forced air heating. The beam structure inside was brought to code and provides a breath taking vaulted ceiling in the Great Room Addition. A walking bridge was rebuilt using aluminum and stainless steel cable to match the railing on the new deck just outside to provide a clear view of the natural landscape. A mud room was added to this remodeling project reducing the impact inside after a day outside.
