Kitchen and Dining Room Addition
This 1922 Bungalow in Northeast Portland’s Wilshire District had a galley kitchen and a very “slender” dining room that was added somewhere in the 1950’s. Carefully attending to the rooflines and transitions, we designed this kitchen and dining room addition to partially facilitate the existing materials and floor system of the old dining room while reconfiguring the doorways, flow and function inside this classic home. The existing service porch at the back of the home went through a conversion of its own and became a mudroom with a bench for removing your shoes and hanging up the rain jacket on those wet wintry days in the Northwest. The fun challenge was overcoming the badly settled floor system in the existing structure that due to budget constraints could not be raised. All in a days work!
